Lauren Murphy ~ Lady Willpower
"A voice you won't forget. Like fine french brandy."
Lauren Murphy Solo
Lauren's music has a way of reaching deeply into the heart of others. There are plenty of singer/songwriters, but her unique vocal delivery has been described as ‘warm, unique jazz-tinged, with excellent intonation and phrasing’ that is like a ‘fine french brandy’. Many fans say her songs evoke the powers of the natural world. She has been featured at the legendary 'Frog Pond Sunday Social" Folk Alliance House Concert for 9 consecutive seasons, has performed at the 'Historic Sweetwater Music Hall'(previously owned by Bob Weir) every year since 97'. Her music can be heard on radio stations from the West to East Coasts. She was also a featured performer at the 35th & 36th Annual Frank Brown Songwriter Festival, that hosts only the top in the industry from Nashville to LA . Compared to Grace Slick & Janis Joplin, Murphy is a force all her own. Lauren's repertoire includes originals as well as covers ranging from Americana , Blues, Folk, Rock, and Jazz.
With 5 solid albums and 2 well received singles to her credit, South Louisiana born Lauren Murphy has close to two decades of experience from the San Francisco to Gulf Coast/ New Orleans music arenas. Relocating from N. Ca. to Fairhope, AL, in 2015 following the death of her husband and music partner, Zero vocalist Judge Murphy, she assembled her Nappie-Nominated high energy band, "The Psychedelics" that became a staple on the Gulf Coast. The recording sessions from 2019 at Dauphin Street Sound(Mobile, Al) resulted in her latest and most dynamic work to date; 'Psychedelics'. It is her fifth, and was released in 2021 to National acclaim.
Her vast experience boasts shared stages with Steve Kimock, Bob Weir, Bernie Worrell, Papa Mali, The Jerry Garcia Band, Will Kimbrough, Ivan Neville, Dave Jordan, Grayson Capps, Melvin Seals, Joan Osborne, Lisa Loeb, and many other members of rock royalty. Lauren has been described by No Depression as "Simply Brilliant. The Real Deal." WWOZ calls her work 'Excellent' and has been spinning her records since 2005. Jambase reviewed her as penning "songs from the heart," and Relix dubbed her "Lady Willpower" . Glide Magazine voted her lead vocal with Zero in 2010 of Allen Toussaint's 'On your way down', as one of the top 10 covers of the decade. She specializes in power vocals and haunting melodies, and is an accomplished guitarist in her own right.
Lauren's repertoire includes originals, but she is equally a strong interpreter of hits by Alison Krauss, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou, and of course a slew of psychedelic anthems.
