This song is an ode to the spirit of old Madisonville. We are the oldest settlement in St. Tammany Parish and where the Pony Express ends. We are 900 souls of all backgrounds and we are surrounded by Bayou Dezaire', the Tchefuncte River, and Lake Pontchartrain. The marshes of Coquille' (the name when our town was founded by French fur trappers) boasts some of the most beautifully dramatic ecosystems in the state. While we are a resilient people, our coastlines and Historic buildings are fragile, including our Lighthouse, one of the few remaining original in the Louisiana. My hopes is this song will bring attention not only to our town for tourism, but moreover highlight the need to preserve our history and culture, especially our Lighthouse.
On a personal note, this is the first song I wrote after coming out of losing my writing partner and band member, as well as a long health battle with post covid complications. The marshes and town helped heal my mind body and spirit, and this is what came out. I hope you like it as much as I do.
